Slowly Getting Back to Real Life and the New Kid

Last week was difficult, but the team stuck together and I think we all became a lot closer.

Thursday night was Matt's memorial service at Sports Basement. The room was packed--standing room only, with people spilling out the doors. Sunday was Kristy's memorial service at Five Rings Cycling, the place where she and Matt trained. Again, it was standing room only, with people spilling out the doors. You could feel the love in the room.

On Saturday, 1,000 cyclists showed up for the memorial ride. It was just amazing. Riders from so many teams in Northern California, families, commuters, triathletes, recumbent riders, people from all corners of the cycling world. There were also people standing along the route giving support, including the Stanford Med nurses who were in the ER that day, and then another big group of people at the actual crash site, including many members of the Sheriff's Dept. The roads were shut down for us and a sheriff's escort and lots of media. A big thanks to the Webcor team for doing traffic control. There are some nice photos and video here:

Between work and everything with the memorials, by Monday, I was exhausted and ended up sleeping in Monday morning, then working over 10 hours. Luckily, work will be getting back to more normal hours. At least I hope so!

The New Kid

He's a Felt track bike and he's fast! (Yes Ben--it's a he.) Got him last night and went straight to the track. There is some tweaking to do regarding the fit and getting comfortable, but wow, it MOVES! Ben, Nole and I drove down to the velodrome last night for the training session and I got about 30 minutes of riding in. I'll be going back on Saturday, hopefully with a more comfortable fit. And, I have someone who is going to help me with the sprint training since my goal later in the summer is the 200 and 500m TTs.

I'm also rethinking my winter schedule, but more on that down the line.
